Angus Longhorn Cross Beef

“Lean beef is good for you – and the key word is lean. A heart patient can eat steak every meal if it is in the right proportions. Longhorn meat, on average, contains 10 percent less saturated fat than that of other cattle. That puts lean Longhorn beef on par with skinned boneless white meat of chicken and that fact may come as a surprise to many dieticians.”  -Dr. Joseph Graham, Cardiovascular Surgeon at St. John’s Medical Center in Joplin, Missouri, and a Longhorn breeder himself.

Today’s savvy shoppers not only want to know where their food comes from but also how the animals are raised. When shoppers buy from the Lazy M and M program, they can be assured that the beef they buy comes from our open pastures right outside our door with a team that put a high priority on cattle care and sustainability. We have specifically picked our combination for breeding our cattle based off of dominate characteristics from both the bull and the cow. The Longhorn breed is already a leaner meat without the grass fed lean meat being added into the equation. When breeding cattle, the bull is the primary genetics carrier. We see the Angus breed as being a very traditional beef with the rich flavors that we all have grown to love, and without creating a meat that is almost too lean, we chose to keep the Angus bull in the breeding equation to bring a balanced lean beef. Both breeds carry amazing qualities to their meat production, and we are proud to raise a mixed breed such as the Longhorn Angus cross in a way that will bring a healthy and flavorful beef to your table.

Longhorn & Angus Beef

Longhorn beef is a great beef choice for health-conscious consumers. It is a strong competitor to the Angus; however, it is genetically leaner. Longhorn's marble excellent with a minimum amount of waste back fat, which means the butcher does not normally have to trim as much fat around the outside of the cut.
